Role Summary:
The Lead Propulsion Engineer will play a pivotal role within the Energetics and Propulsion Department, which is integral to the Mechanical Engineering Directorate. This department is tasked with the comprehensive development of warhead, fuzing, and propulsion technologies, encompassing power systems, ignition mechanisms, and safety systems for weapon initiation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. **Technology Application:**
Utilize and enhance cutting-edge technologies and scientific principles to integrate propulsion systems, thrusters, controllers, and interfaces into missile systems and space vehicles.
2. **Project Involvement:**
Engage in both development and production initiatives across various RTX product lines, ensuring seamless collaboration with manufacturing teams and subcontractors.
3. **Process Review:**
Assess manufacturing processes and facilitate problem resolution while overseeing the design and production of solid rocket motor propulsion systems.
4. **Collaborative Planning:**
Work closely with program management on long-term planning for technological advancements, serving as a key representative for the program's technical capabilities.
5. **Project Management:**
Oversee propulsion system development projects, manage subcontracts, and review subcontract data and change requests, ensuring supplier operations align with project goals.
6. **Customer Engagement:**
Regularly interface with customers to ascertain user requirements and expectations.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of experience in propulsion technology, particularly in solid propulsion systems, or three years with an advanced degree.
- Active U.S. government issued security clearance is mandatory prior to employment commencement.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related scientific discipline.
- Over five years of relevant experience in propulsion technology, including solid, liquid, and mono propellant systems.
- Proven project engineering skills and familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems.
- Demonstrated leadership in collaborative efforts across various technical disciplines.
- Willingness to travel internationally for supplier support.
