POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cardiovascular Imaging Specialist is tasked with delivering patient care through the application of invasive imaging technologies under the supervision of a physician, facilitating the diagnosis and treatment of both congenital and acquired vascular and organ diseases.

# Responsible for executing a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, from routine to complex, at a level that does not necessitate constant oversight of technical details.

This specialist aids in various procedures that require independent judgment, a solid understanding of anatomy, and extensive technical knowledge of imaging equipment.

Maintaining a vigilant awareness of infection control protocols, the importance of sterility, and patient care standards is crucial.

# EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
A high school diploma is required. #Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is mandatory, with a preference for Vascular-Interventional (VI) Radiography Certification. A valid State of Connecticut License for Radiographic procedures is necessary.

Continuing education units (CEUs) must be obtained regularly to uphold state licensure requirements. #Completion of mandatory annual education programs and adherence to age-specific knowledge/skill requirements is expected.

BLS Certification is required.

Reliable transportation is essential for travel between multiple work sites as part of the job responsibilities.

# COMPETENCIES:

Advanced mathematical skills in physics are required to understand and manage radiation exposure levels for both patients and staff during procedures. #A comprehensive understanding of physics principles, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile techniques, and radiation safety as they pertain to Radiology is essential. #Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is necessary for understanding procedures and communicating effectively with patients.

The incumbent must demonstrate effective communication skills across diverse age groups, showing patience and empathy towards patients. #Appropriate communication is maintained through strong interpersonal skills.

A positive professional demeanor is essential, reflected in both verbal and non-verbal communication. #Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are advantageous but not required. #Completion of ECHN's High Reliability Organization Education is mandatory.

#Conducts all standard radiographic procedures in accordance with departmental standards, protocols, and guidelines set forth by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the State of Connecticut.

Ensures proper clinical care for patients during diagnostic procedures.

Evaluates and enhances the quality of images captured, utilizing a blend of skill, experience, and judgment to improve image quality (e.g., adjusting contrast, resizing images, annotating, etc.).

Maintains familiarity with the capabilities of radiographic equipment, adhering to sterile technique policies and practices. Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory levels and personal protective equipment in the Angio Suite. Actively engages in inventory management and stock counts. Upholds professionalism in alignment with ECHN's Core Values, even in high-pressure situations.

Accurate documentation of patient information and diagnostic procedures is essential. Demonstrates a willingness to complete tasks and collaborates effectively as a team member. Stays informed about advancements in this field.

Provides efficient procedural support for various patient procedures, ensuring proper patient positioning. Reports total fluoroscopy times to physicians at designated intervals.

Wears a radiation badge consistently during work hours. Guides non-radiologic personnel in safe radiation practices. Responsible for meeting quality assurance standards and requirements. Ensures that quality images are consistently transmitted to PACS. Completes Universal Protocol checklists accurately. Assists in the training of newly hired staff.

Successfully fulfills continuing education requirements, participates in staff meetings and training sessions, and is accountable for individual work responsibilities. Welcomes feedback positively and demonstrates accountability for actions and decisions in daily tasks. Exhibits productive work habits.
