The Role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in the dialysis treatment process, supporting clinical staff to deliver prescribed treatments and ensuring safe care for patients with end-stage renal disease. As a PCT, you will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide top-notch patient care and support.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in infection control, risk management, and patient education activities
  • Guide new patients through a comprehensive education plan
  • Obtain and record patient vital signs and machine readings during treatment
  • Set up and break down dialysis blood systems for treatment
  • Insert and remove patient access needles
  • Monitor patients during dialysis, document changes, and inform charge nurses of any concerns
  • Calculate patient weight loss to reach dry weight
  • Determine patient care priorities and organize workload accordingly
  • Maintain professional working relationships, observing patient privacy and rights
  • Maintain and track inventory
  • Perform laboratory work
