Job SummaryThe Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in the dialysis treatment process, supporting clinical staff to deliver high-quality care to patients with end-stage renal disease. As a PCT, you will be an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring safe care and optimal outcomes for every patient.
Responsibilities- Participate in infection control and risk management activities to ensure a safe environment for patients.
- Guide new patients through a comprehensive education plan to ensure successful treatment outcomes.
- Obtain and record patient vital signs and machine readings during treatment.
- Work under the supervision of a registered nurse to ensure seamless care delivery.
- Set up and break down dialysis blood systems for treatment.
- Insert and remove patient access needles.
- Monitor patients during dialysis, documenting changes and reporting concerns to the charge nurse.
- Calculate patient weight loss to reach dry weight.
- Determine patient care priorities and organize workload accordingly.
- Maintain professional working relationships, respecting patient privacy and rights.
- Maintain and track inventory.
- Perform laboratory work as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous healthcare experience preferred, but not required.
- CNA, EMT, medical assistant, CNT, and/or phlebotomy skills desired.
- DCI provides a comprehensive education program, including classroom group sessions and one-on-one skills training.
- Dialysis experience not required, job shadow opportunities available.
