Job Summary

We are seeking a highly responsible Detention Officer II to join our team at the Monroe Regional Juvenile Detention Center. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and secure custody of all assigned detained youth while providing them with their constitutional rights.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with youth, co-workers, supervisors, and the public. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment, adhering to agency or facility policies and procedures, and ensuring the maintenance of an environment that has "zero tolerance" for detained youth escapes, abuse, and inappropriate conduct.

You will also be responsible for assisting in the operation of a secure detention center, ensuring the safe and secure custody of all assigned detained youth, and providing them with their constitutional rights. This includes assisting the supervisor to ensure that the detained youth's services and programming are in compliance with court orders, rules, Departmental policies and procedures, and Quality Assurance standards.

The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate both orally and in writing, add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers, prepare and maintain reports and records, and effectively work with youth, co-workers, supervisors, and the public. You will also be required to complete 10-minute checks, 5-minute checks, or Constant Sight and Uninterrupted Sound Supervision for every detained youth confined to room confinement or designated as suicidal.

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of good hygiene
  • Knowledge of the Department and facility policies and procedures

  • Ability to observe changes in youth's behaviors
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to correct behavior
  • Knowledge of good housekeeping tasks relative to maintaining the sanitary conditions of the facility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid
  • Experience working with youth in a detention or correctional setting
  • Knowledge of the Department and facility policies and procedures
