Overview

Housing Matters is a leading organization dedicated to ending homelessness in Santa Cruz County. We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to join our team as a Direct Services Coordinator (Emergency Shelter Tech).

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, secure, and clean environment for shelter guests, ensuring their well-being and comfort.
  • Assist guests in accessing day services, providing support and answering their questions in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Distribute snacks and supplies when available, promoting a sense of community and care.
  • Implement housing first and harm reduction strategies, working closely with guests to address their unique needs.
  • Ensure professional boundaries are maintained at all times, fostering a respectful and inclusive environment.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques when necessary, prioritizing the safety and dignity of all individuals.
  • Collaborate with community resources to provide assistance and support to guests.
  • Adhere to program-specific policies, including curfew and visiting rules, to maintain a stable and secure environment.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and safety personnel, ensuring seamless coordination and support.
  • Complete Incident Reports as necessary, maintaining accurate documentation for each program.
  • Support staff and community organizations during program activities, promoting a sense of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Attend required staff and agency meetings and trainings, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED completion.
  • Knowledge of Spanish is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training provided upon hire).
  • EMT certification is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is beneficial.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

The Direct Services Coordinator will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong multitasking and communication skills. The ability to work independently and with minimal supervision is essential, as is the capacity to maintain a safe and clean environment for all guests.
