Boston, Massachusetts, United States Tufts Medicine Full time

Located in downtown Boston's Chinatown neighborhood, Tufts Medical Center is a leading teaching hospital for Tufts Medical School and serves as a designated level one trauma center and comprehensive stroke center. The hospital is fortunate to have both neuro-critical care and neuro-intermediate care units staffed with highly trained clinicians, nurses, and therapists to best serve patients suffering from neurologic conditions.

We are seeking a highly motivated physician assistant to work in a fast-paced, team environment focused on delivering exceptional, compassionate care. The ideal candidate will have excellent critical thinking skills and efficiency, with the ability to demonstrate initiative to complete daily tasks and address the needs of patients and their families.

The physician assistant will work in collaboration with the resident team to provide comprehensive care to inpatients at Tufts Medical Center experiencing a wide variety of conditions involving the brain and spine. Responsibilities include intensive care, intermediate care, and floor-level patients, as well as emergency room and off-service consultations, including traumas.

Proficiency in general medicine is required, with the ability to manage active chronic medical illnesses and postoperative conditions, such as arrhythmias and ventilator management. The physician assistant must be able to independently evaluate patients, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and initiate clinical intervention based on the results of those studies.

Strong interpersonal skills are crucial for effective communication within the interdisciplinary care team and for coordination of care with consulting services. The role involves procedural skills, such as drain removal, suturing, and arterial line placement.

The position requires a rotating schedule with 3 13-hour shifts per week, including on average 1 Monday overnight call shift and 1-2 Saturday call shifts per month. All call shifts are in-house call, with no major holiday coverage requirements.

Qualifications include a graduate degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program, NCCPA certification, ACLS certification, an active Massachusetts Physician Assistant License, DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration, and 1-2 years of experience as an inpatient physician assistant.
