Core Responsibilities

HF Sinclair is in search of a Reliability Engineer to enhance site dependability through innovative technology and engineering principles. The Reliability Engineer will spearhead cross-functional teams to proactively identify and implement enduring, systemic solutions for both operational and technical challenges. This role necessitates close collaboration with professionals from various engineering sectors, trades, and operators to promote sustainable and proactive defect resolution.

Key Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Employs established engineering methodologies to execute projects and tasks within the engineering division, exercising discretion in the independent assessment, selection, and significant adaptation of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Addresses a range of intricate issues, including conflicting design specifications, the unsuitability of traditional materials, and challenging coordination requirements, while troubleshooting and updating reporting data as necessary.
  • The Reliability & Data Engineer holds Responsibility, Accountability, and Authority to:
    • Oversee the Manage Risk work process to ensure the identification, prioritization, and mitigation of reliability risks and incidents.
    • Lead the Reliability Centered Maintenance work process to guarantee asset maintenance and minimize overall risk.
    • Automate and analyze refinery reliability performance metrics for the Reliability Steering Team, Production Teams, and external reporting.
    • Act as the Area Focal Point and Facilitator for Production Teams.
    • Support the Operator Task Management and IntelaTrac system to enhance site reliability outcomes.
    • Promote a proactive approach to defect elimination and latent threat identification.
    • Champion high reliability organization principles at the site, balancing efforts across personnel, processes, and technology.
  • Facilitate and maintain the 10-Year Capital and Expense Maintenance Plans for Production Teams and lead Enhanced Problem Solving Teams utilizing Causal Learning Skills.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and AFE's for approval, ensuring compliance with budgetary constraints as well as refinery and OSHA standards.
  • Optimize business unit operations and analyze data to support decision-making, ensuring the maintenance and integrity of business unit data.
Additional tasks may be assigned by the supervisor as deemed necessary.

Qualifications

A minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in engineering disciplines is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional Engineer registration is preferred. Experience in the refinery or petrochemical sector is advantageous. Familiarity with FCC, CCR, Alky, Sulfur unit, Delayed Coking, Lubes Processing, and hydrotreating is preferred for Chemical discipline roles.

Educational Background

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required.

  • Intermediate understanding of commonly utilized engineering concepts with the ability to apply this knowledge analytically.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, along with effective communication and influencing skills.
  • Proven experience or potential to lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Self-driven and customer service-oriented.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Products (Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of Reliability and Maintenance engineering principles and applications, including Risk Assessment Methodologies, Pareto analysis, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
  • Familiarity with Reliability Assessment Tools (e.g., Reliability Block Diagram, Fault Tree Analysis, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, Weibull Analysis, Crow-AMSAA, System reliability analysis).
  • Experience with Office 365 SharePoint and Power Platform (PowerBI, Power Apps, Power Automate).
  • Database technologies including deployment, querying, and analysis using MS SQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with SAP.
Supervisory Responsibilities

May involve supervising contractors based on assignment.

Work Environment

Combination of office and plant settings with potential travel required. Must be adaptable to varying weather conditions and able to work in all temperatures, including outdoor environments.

Physical Demands

This role requires standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, performing visual inspections, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing heights of up to 200 ft, and perceiving color differences. Personal protective equipment may be necessary, and a valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance are required.
