Job Summary

The YMCA of Southwest Florida is seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Early Learning Classroom Educator to join our team. As a key member of our early childhood education program, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing and engaging environment that fosters the growth and development of young children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Classroom Instruction
    • Develop and implement a daily and weekly rhythm that supports the growth and development of children.
    • Prepare and lead daily activities, including circle time, imaginative play, story time, and outdoor activities, that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development.
    • Document student progress and maintain accurate records.
    • Develop and maintain a safe and harmonious social environment for students.
    • Ensure a clean, orderly, and beautiful classroom environment.
  • Home/School Communication
    • Prepare and hold regular class meetings with parents to educate them about early childhood education and child development.
    • Conduct parent-teacher conferences to discuss student progress and address any concerns.
    • Write weekly correspondence to parents providing updates on student activities and important announcements.
  • Written Reports
    • Complete mid-year and end-of-year reports detailing student progress and development.
  • Planning and Preparation
    • Prepare and implement lesson plans that align with the YMCA's early childhood education curriculum.
    • Complete all necessary shopping and preparation for daily activities.
    • Take daily attendance and maintain accurate records.
    • Participate in staff meetings and collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive and effective program.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Participate in the enrollment process for new students, including student interviews and parent interviews.
    • Develop and maintain a lesson plan that can be given to a substitute teacher in the event of an absence.
    • Participate in professional development and accountability plans to ensure ongoing growth and improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 12 credit hours in child development or early childhood education.
  • Valid Florida Childcare Staff Credential.
  • At least one year of teaching experience in an early childhood education setting.
  • Strong teaching and student management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and maintain a positive and professional attitude.
Certifications and Training Requirements
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Annual completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens training.
  • Annual completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class.
  • Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols.
  • Additional training classes as recommended and needed for continuing education credit.
