Job Summary

The Financial Aid Counselor is a key member of the student support team at The Lake Erie College Of Osteopathic Medicine. This role is responsible for providing expert guidance and support to prospective and accepted students in navigating the financial aid process for various programs offered at the institution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide counseling and financial assistance to students, ensuring they understand their financial aid options and eligibility requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between students, faculty, and staff, promoting a positive and professional image of the institution.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information with discretion.
  • Authorize student payments and refunds, ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
  • Develop and deliver financial aid presentations to students, promoting the institution's programs and services.
  • Process and certify student loan applications, ensuring timely and accurate disbursements.
  • Determine student financial need and verify aid eligibility, making informed decisions to support student success.
  • Coordinate with multiple agencies to deliver financial aid funds, ensuring seamless and efficient processing.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student financial records, adhering to federal regulations and institutional policies.
  • Assist in the development of new budgets and educational materials, supporting the institution's mission and goals.
  • Conduct regular presentations on financial aid procedures and eligibility requirements, ensuring students are informed and empowered.
  • Participate in campus events, such as commencement, orientation, and open houses, promoting the institution's values and mission.
  • Engage in professional development programs, staying current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty, providing timely and accurate information on financial aid matters.
  • Perform data entry, clerical, and phone responsibilities, supporting the department's goals and objectives.
  • Stay informed about all programs offered by the institution, providing accurate and helpful information to students.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, staff, and faculty, resolving issues and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Conduct on-campus tours, providing a positive and informative experience for prospective students.
  • Participate in the applicant interview process, supporting the institution's recruitment efforts.
  • Update applicant files and notify students of application status, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
  • Assist in processing applications for institutional programs, supporting the institution's mission and goals.
  • Analyze data and create reports, providing insights and recommendations to support student success.
  • Support the planning and implementation of on-campus events, promoting the institution's values and mission.
  • Collaborate with admissions representatives, providing expert guidance and support to students.
  • Provide backup support to the college receptionist, ensuring seamless and efficient service.
  • Offer student affairs support services, promoting student success and well-being.
  • Contribute to the institution's mission and values, embodying the principles of osteopathic medicine and promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Participate in scholarly activities, enriching the student learning experience and promoting academic excellence.
  • Engage in community outreach and service, promoting the institution's values and mission.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of one year of experience in financial aid or a related field.
  • Strong computer literacy and data entry skills, with proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information with discretion.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations and institutional policies, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical and effective manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service and student success.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes, with a strong commitment to professional development and growth.
