POSITION SUMMARY

The role encompasses responsibilities typically associated with a physician, including diagnosing and treating health issues, as well as prescribing medications that are beyond the scope of lower-level nursing roles.

Work is characterized by the necessity to operate under the general supervision of a Medical Doctor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Oversees and delivers patient care in accordance with protocols sanctioned by the Medical Director, adhering to applicable Federal and State regulations and City policies.

Exhibits hands-on proficiency as a healthcare provider.

Supervises staff in their responsibilities.

Prescribes medications as permitted by law.

Engages in community health initiatives and off-site clinics, some of which may occur outside standard working hours.

Coordinates with workers' compensation and other Risk Management personnel to optimize in-house treatment and minimize downtime.

Collaborates with other Risk Management staff to enhance the department's wellness initiatives.

Communicates with external providers involved in patient care.

Conducts physical examinations and assessments.

Documents in compliance with Federal, State, and City standards.

Adheres to safety and infection control protocols while delivering patient care.

Actively participates in the daily coordination of patient care, scheduling, and documentation.

Maintains comprehensive knowledge of DOT and City physical standards.

Maintains a thorough understanding of DOT and City Drug and Alcohol testing programs.

Implements DOT and City Drug and Alcohol testing programs on a daily basis.

Maintains knowledge of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Maintains knowledge of HIPAA regulations.


Possesses a working knowledge of Workers' Compensation regulations to provide effective care for employees injured on the job.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

May assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, an individual must be capable of fulfilling each essential function satisfactorily. Below are the required education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for success.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in nursing.

Certification as an APRN or ARNP with the authority to prescribe medications, along with three (3) to five (5) years of advanced practice nursing experience in a Primary Care, Family Practice, or Occupational Medicine setting.

Occupational health experience and a valid Occupational Health Certification are preferred. A Master's degree in Nursing is preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS OR LICENSES

Licenses

Valid State of Florida driver license with a good driving record required at the time of hire.

Valid Florida Registered Nurse license.

Certifications


National Certification by either AANP or ANCC and certification as an Autonomous APRN with the State of Florida with a current certification to prescribe at the time of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Comprehensive knowledge of professional Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner nursing and occupational health care programs


Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal regulations, laws, and statutes related to ARNP occupational health standards and requirements.

In-depth knowledge of effective administrative principles and practices.

Ability to develop and manage City Employee Health Programs.


Ability to address selected medical issues, order physical and occupational therapy, prescribe medications, and initiate, monitor, and adjust treatments for uncomplicated illnesses or injuries.

Ability to conduct physical examinations and assessments.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.


Ability to collaborate effectively with elected officials, charter officers, directors, managers, supervisors, representatives of other agencies, fellow City employees, and the general public.

Ability to work collaboratively with Risk Management managers, professional personnel, subordinates, and staff.

Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.

Ability to thrive in a close-knit team environment.

Ability to provide leadership to colleagues.
