Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Practice Assistant II to join our team at Brigham & Women's Hospital (BWH). As a key member of our ambulatory practice, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage patient check-in and check-out processes, ensuring accurate and efficient registration and billing.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, responding to patient inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and collect copayments and outstanding balances.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and secure prior authorizations, referrals, and appointments for specialty care and testing.
  • Reconcile daily batch and global processing, ensuring accurate and timely financial transactions.
  • Answer phones and assist patients or route calls to appropriate departments.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-high school education preferred.
  • Minimum one year of applicable work experience required.
  • Additional training in office systems preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of practice operations and standards.
  • Understanding of procedures including filing, copying, scanning, printing, and faxing.
  • Ability to use phone system, answer and screen calls, put on hold, and give routine information.
  • Ability to interpret information, answer routine questions, and communicate in a professional, courteous, clear, and concise manner.
  • Ability to manage work processes in a neat and orderly way and to sort and alphabetize.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, follow established protocols, and work within systems.
Working Conditions

This position is based in a hospital-based ambulatory practice, with normal patient environments where there are some exposures to communicable diseases, unpleasant odors, needles, and blood products.
