Housing Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and bilingual Housing Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing housing placement services to individuals and families in our community.

• Work with our programs team to assist clients in the community, providing information on needed resources and services.
• Apply knowledge of residential lease contracts to educate clients on their rights and responsibilities, and explain, interpret, and apply HUD and other rental assistance programs, policies, and procedures.
• Visit potential housing options with clients, perform HQS inspections, and act as a liaison between client and landlord.
• Generate and compile client outcomes and reports within HMIS and Excel for reporting to funders, and maintain detailed records of every case, home visit, referral, and contacts with resources on client's behalf.
• Network and meet with county homeless coalitions, community service providers, service organizations, and institutions to maintain self-sufficient living of our program participants.
• Assist in the processing of internal housing financial resources.
• Participate in Metropolitan Ministries' holiday efforts and other fund-raising events as needed.

• Bachelor's degree in a Human Service Field or 3-5 years of experience working in the Housing/Property Management Industry and/or realtor experience.
• Currently possess or willing to obtain a Housing Quality Standard certification.
• Bi-lingual in Spanish required.
• Requires a heart for ministry, understanding of poverty, high degree of maturity, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work with low socio-economic and diverse populations facing crisis situations in a professional and diplomatic manner.
• Ability to deescalate clients on the edge of verbal or physical violence, work as part of a team within a multi-disciplinary framework, and demonstrate computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Requires oral and written communication skills and ability to write reports and conduct and participate in meetings.
• Must have adequate hearing and speaking ability, be capable of working outdoors in sunlight and higher temperatures on occasion, and have the physical, emotional, and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress.
• Must be able to lift 20 lbs. or more.

• Salary: $40,000 - $42,000
