Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Housing Specialist - Bilingual to join our team. As a Housing Specialist - Bilingual, you will work closely with our programs team to provide housing placement services to individuals and families in need.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Work with the programs team to assist clients in the community, providing information on needed resources and services.
  2. Apply knowledge of residential lease contracts to educate clients of their rights and responsibilities, and explain, interpret, and apply HUD and other rental assistance programs, policies, and procedures.
  3. Visit potential housing options with clients, perform HQS inspections, and act as a liaison between client and landlord.
  4. Generate and compile client outcomes and reports within HMIS and Excel for reporting to funders, and maintain detailed records of every case, home visit, referral, and contacts with resources on client's behalf.
  5. Network and meet with county homeless coalitions, community service providers, service organizations, and institutions to maintain self-sufficient living of our program participants.
  6. Assist in the processing of internal housing financial resources.
  7. Participate in Metropolitan Ministries' holiday efforts and other fund-raising events as needed.

Requirements

Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in a Human Service field or 3-5 years of experience working in the Housing/Property Management industry and/or realtor experience is required. Currently possess or willing to obtain a Housing Quality Standard certification. Bi-lingual in Spanish is required.

Skills Requirements

A heart for ministry, understanding of poverty, high degree of maturity, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work with low socio-economic and diverse populations facing crisis situations in a professional and diplomatic manner are essential. Ability to deescalate clients on the edge of verbal or physical violence, work as part of a team within a multi-disciplinary framework, and demonstrate computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are also required.

Physical Requirements

Adequate hearing and speaking ability, physical stamina to handle job-related issues and stress, and ability to lift 20 lbs. or more are necessary.

Other

Demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States, pass required background pre-employment screening, and communicate effectively in English are required. A valid driver's license, car, clean driving record, and ability to qualify for the Ministries' driving program are also necessary.
