Therapeutic Specialist

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing life-changing solutions for those who are homeless and at risk of becoming homeless in Tampa Bay.

We are seeking a highly skilled Therapeutic Specialist to join our team at Metropolitan Ministries, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and facilitating therapeutic programs for homeless children and families in our onsite housing programs.

1. Assessment and Intervention Planning: Conduct thorough assessments of students' needs through observations, school and medical records, tests, and consulting with other professionals, teachers, families, and students.
2. Treatment Planning and Implementation: Create treatment plans and programs that meet students' needs and interests using a Trauma-Informed Care approach.
3. Therapeutic Activities: Plan and implement interventions to mitigate the effects of trauma, engage students in therapeutic activities using a variety of modalities, and facilitate opportunities for students to learn healthy ways to express and manage emotions.
4. Progress Monitoring and Evaluation: Record and analyze students' progress, evaluate interventions for effectiveness, and provide training and support to staff teams and parents to increase effectiveness of interventions.
5. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with community partners and other disciplines to provide intervention programs, work collaboratively with staff to implement social emotional curriculums within peer groups, and design, plan, and facilitate opportunities to increase parent involvement for families.

We are seeking a candidate with a minimum of a B.S. degree in therapeutic recreation, child/human/family development, or mental health field. A Master's degree in a related field is desirable. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience in the fields of recreation therapy or related field for bachelor's level candidates. Direct experience working with children and parents is required. Bi-lingual candidates are preferred. National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) or Child Life Certification is preferred.

The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal and supervisory skills, oral and written communication skills, group leadership and facilitation skills, dependability, maturity, and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in clients served. The candidate will also be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team framework, handle job-related matters in a professional, diplomatic, and confidential manner, and be willing to work with minimal supervision.

The candidate must have the physical and emotional stamina to effectively handle job-related issues and stress. A valid driver's license and ability to transport self and clients when necessary are also required.
