Position Overview:


Aligned with the school's mission, educators will ensure that every student attains the knowledge and skills necessary for academic advancement and success, as outlined by curricular and instructional objectives and overarching institutional goals.

Teachers are expected to embody the mission and guiding principles of the institution, adhere to the Student Code of Conduct, and foster positive, collaborative relationships with students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability to promote student achievement.


Instructors will deliver appropriate content and skills through the use of adopted curriculum materials, along with suitable supplemental and self-created resources; design lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and specialized student needs; create an engaging learning atmosphere that encourages social interaction, active participation, and self-motivation; and actively engage with colleagues in school improvement initiatives, curriculum development, and collaborative student support meetings.


Core Responsibilities:

Implement evidence-based curriculum and instructional strategies:


Facilitate a rigorous, research-informed curriculum aimed at enhancing student academic progress and achievement, consistent with school and network objectives.

Develop, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that align with educational standards and promote active learning.

Establish clear and positive learning expectations for all students to evaluate academic progress.

Create comprehensive lesson plans and activities in accordance with established guidelines.

Utilize relevant technology to support and tailor instruction.

Monitor individual student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.

Clearly communicate objectives for all learning activities.

Employ a variety of educational materials and resources in instructional activities.

Regularly assess student performance:


Ensure the academic success of every student by utilizing formative assessments to refine learning plans and summative assessments to gauge objective achievement.

Provide opportunities for re-assessment to foster skill mastery.

Develop assessments in line with established protocols.

Offer frequent, specific feedback on student work to advance learning.

Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of student progress and development.

Update all necessary records accurately and in compliance with legal, network, and school policies.

Observe and evaluate student performance and growth.

Incorporate student choice into assessment structures.

Foster positive, productive, professional relationships:
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.

Guide and supervise students in the use of learning materials and equipment.

Manage classroom behavior by establishing and enforcing expectations and procedures.

Maintain discipline in accordance with the school's expectations and disciplinary frameworks.

Show respect and consideration for students, colleagues, and parents.


Build positive relationships and address the social and emotional needs of students using research-based strategies as identified by school leadership.

Encourage parental and community involvement; provide information to parents as needed.

Initiate appropriate discussions with parents, guardians, and administrators as per school procedures.


Communicate effectively, respectfully, and professionally with parents or guardians and students regarding academic progress, attendance, and conduct.

Exhibit a commitment to collaboration, innovation, and adaptable approaches:

Participate constructively in department, school, network, and parent meetings.


Collaborate with fellow educators to implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) or differentiated instruction and assessment to enhance student access to the curriculum, growth, and achievement.

Actively engage in the development and application of new teaching methodologies and assessment techniques.

Participate in discussions and initiatives aimed at improving student performance, experience, attendance, and conduct.

Involve students in curricular planning and assessment development.

Collaborate with faculty and administration in the design and implementation of instructional programs.

Engage actively and positively in the instructional coaching process.

Accept and apply feedback from coaching sessions.

Fulfill professional responsibilities:


Engage in structured lesson planning that provides differentiated options for various skill levels, based on the standards and curriculum set by the school’s Instructional Leadership Team.

Share lesson plans in accordance with established school procedures.

Maintain an accurate gradebook following school protocols.

Implement grading policies as established by the institution.


Attend professional development and collaboration days to enhance skills, provide and receive feedback, and remain open to coaching and mentoring.

Prepare necessary reports on student performance and activities.

Regularly communicate essential information to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress, intervention outcomes, and needs.

Prepare the classroom, whether physical or virtual, for instructional activities.

Assign and evaluate classwork, projects, and assessments in accordance with school and network guidelines.

Maintain accurate daily attendance records.

Be available for scheduled office hours.

Respond to communications within 24-48 hours on weekdays.

Participate in school events to better understand student interests and personalities outside the classroom.

Adhere to school and network policies and protocols.

Build respectful relationships with staff, students, families, and community partners.

Other duties as assigned within the framework of the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (Required) in a relevant content area (Preferred)

Master's Degree in a relevant content area (Preferred)

Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educators License (PEL) (Elementary level designation - Required)

LBS1 Endorsement (K-12 or K Required)

Bilingual Spanish/English (Preferred)

Additional Qualifications:
Experience in writing and managing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) (Required)

Experience with IEP management software (Strongly Preferred)

Knowledge of Special Education laws and protocols (Required)

Experience with student information systems (Impact, Aspen, etc.) (Strongly Preferred)

Experience in planning for and teaching elementary school students (Required)

Experience in urban educational settings (Strongly Preferred)

A positive outlook on students with special needs and high expectations for their potential with appropriate support (Required)

Knowledge and Skills:


Extensive knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements, contemporary teaching principles, assessment practices, and classroom management techniques.

Ability to adapt instruction to meet student needs.

Ability to work effectively and professionally with students, parents, staff, and community representatives.

Flexibility in instructional approaches, assessment methods, and relationship building.

Understanding of human development principles as they apply to children and adolescents.

Strong ability to implement contemporary teaching practices.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Sound professional judgment.

Strong technical skills, including proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and presentation tools.
