Role Summary:

Guided by the institution's mission, educators will guarantee that every student acquires the essential knowledge and skills necessary for academic advancement and success, as delineated by educational and instructional objectives and overarching institutional goals. Educators are expected to embody the mission and guiding principles of the institution, adhere to the standards of conduct, and foster constructive and collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability to promote student academic and personal success.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement Evidence-Based Curriculum and Instructional Strategies:
    • Facilitate a rigorous, evidence-based curriculum aimed at enhancing student academic progress and achievement, aligned with institutional and network initiatives.
    • Design, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that are standards-aligned and encourage active learning.
    • Establish clear and positive learning expectations for all students to evaluate academic progress.
    • Create lesson plans and activities in accordance with established guidelines.
    • Utilize relevant technology to support and tailor instruction.
    • Monitor individual student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
    • Communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
    • Employ a variety of educational materials and resources for instructional activities.

  • Evaluate Student Performance Regularly:
    • Ensure the academic success of every student by utilizing formative assessments to adjust learning plans and summative assessments to gauge objective attainment. Provide opportunities for re-assessment to foster skill mastery.
    • Develop assessments in accordance with established guidelines.
    • Provide frequent, specific feedback on student work to enhance learning.
    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of student progress and development.
    • Update necessary records accurately and completely as mandated by regulations and institutional policies.
    • Observe and assess student performance and development.
    • Incorporate student choice into assessment structures.

  • Foster Positive Relationships:
    • Demonstrate preparation and skill in engaging with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
    • Guide and supervise students in the use of educational materials and equipment.
    • Manage classroom behavior by establishing and enforcing expectations and procedures.
    • Maintain discipline in accordance with the institution's expectations and disciplinary frameworks.
    • Show respect and consideration for students, colleagues, and parents.
    • Build positive relationships and address the social and emotional needs of students using research-based methods.
    • Encourage parental and community involvement; provide information to parents as needed.
    • Initiate appropriate discussions with parents, guardians, and administrators as per institutional procedures.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents or guardians regarding student academic progress, attendance, and behavior.

  • Commit to Professional Development:
    • Engage positively in departmental, institutional, network, and parental meetings.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to implement differentiated instruction and assessment to enhance student access to the curriculum.
    • Actively participate in the development and application of innovative teaching techniques and assessment methods.
    • Engage in discussions and initiatives aimed at improving student performance, experience, attendance, and conduct.
    • Involve students in curricular planning and assessment development.
    • Collaborate with faculty and administration in program instruction development and implementation.
    • Participate actively in the instructional coaching process and accept constructive feedback.

  • Fulfill Professional Obligations:
    • Engage in structured lesson planning that accommodates various skill levels based on established standards and curriculum.
    • Produce and share lesson plans in accordance with institutional procedures.
    • Maintain an accurate gradebook as per institutional guidelines.
    • Implement grading protocols established by the institution.
    • Attend professional learning and collaboration days to enhance skills and engage in feedback processes.
    • Prepare necessary reports on student performance and activities.
    • Communicate essential information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
    • Prepare the classroom for instructional activities.
    • Assign and evaluate classwork, projects, and assessments in line with institutional protocols.
    • Maintain accurate attendance records.
    • Respond to communications promptly within established timeframes.
    • Participate in school events to better understand student interests and personalities.
    • Adhere to institutional policies and protocols.
    • Build respectful relationships with staff, students, families, and community partners.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned within the framework of the collective bargaining agreement.

  • Support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:
    • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse backgrounds and advocate for their needs.
    • Contribute to creating inclusive, identity-affirming environments for students.
    • Exhibit cultural competence in professional practices and responsibilities.
    • Implement D.E.I principles in interactions with the school community.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (Required)
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field (Preferred)
  • Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educators License (PEL) with Elementary level designation (Required)
  • LBS1 Endorsement (K-12 or K-8) (Required)
  • Bilingual Spanish/English (Preferred)

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in writing and managing IEPs (Required)
  • Familiarity with IEP management programs (Strongly Preferred)
  • Knowledge of special education laws and protocols (Required)
  • Experience in teaching elementary school students (Required)
  • Experience in urban educational settings (Strongly Preferred)
  • A positive outlook regarding students with special needs and high expectations for their achievements (Required)

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements and contemporary teaching practices.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Capacity to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community representatives.
  • Flexibility in instructional approaches and relationship building.
  • Understanding of child and adolescent development principles.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Sound professional judgment.
  • Proficiency in using Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and presentation tools.
