Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Trailer Mechanic is tasked with the upkeep and repair of all company-owned flatbed and van truck trailers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation road safety standards.
  • Execute repairs on braking systems, electrical components, suspensions, alignments, and tires.
  • Oversee wheel hubs and axles, making adjustments or replacements as necessary.
  • Diagnose reported issues and resolve them promptly.
  • Maintain detailed work logs, compile inspection reports, document repairs, and communicate findings to management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with air brakes, electrical systems, and ABS brake systems is preferred.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions presented in various formats.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic software.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a relevant apprenticeship program or professional certification in maintenance and trailer repairs is preferred.
  • Possession of a Driver's License is preferred.
  • Experience in Mig and Stick Welding, as well as fabrication, is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Must possess the manual dexterity and stability required for precision tasks.
  • Ability to see details at close range is essential.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to navigate facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.

Work Environment:

  • Must provide personal tools and storage solutions.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions including extreme heat, wind, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures.
  • Must be able to work in environments with loud noise, heavy vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and around hazardous and/or non-hazardous materials.
