Job Title: Instrumentation and Electrical Technician

Kinder Morgan is seeking a skilled Instrumentation and Electrical Technician to join our team. As an Instrumentation and Electrical Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and documenting all electrical and instrumentation systems associated with pipeline, terminal, and control center operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive maintenance services and calibrations of all site instrumentation and electrical systems.
  • Repair non-functioning or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Read and interpret schematics, instrument and electrical wiring diagrams, and specifications.
  • Prepare all required work-related documentation in a timely manner.
  • Assist operations personnel with equipment lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Install and repair DOT, OSHA, and Coast Guard regulated equipment.
  • Provide training to operations and contractors on the proper use and maintenance of electrical and instrument equipment.
  • Obtain required permits for work to be performed (SCADA, safety, hot-work, etc.).
  • Order parts and supplies, both standard inventory stock and/or those needed for a specific job.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Certification through an approved electrical apprenticeship journeyman level program or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of verifiable instrument and electrical technician experience in a terminal environment or related industry.
  • Working knowledge of vapor recovery systems, truck rack loading systems, and tank level measurement.
  • Practical experience in electronics, test equipment, instrumentation, SCADA, print reading, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge and experience in electrical distribution, sub-stations, power transformers, and motor control switchgear.
  • Proficient in computer applications including MS Windows and MS Office.
  • Strong analytical and mechanical skills and aptitude.
  • Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and remain productive while under minimal supervision.
  • Speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language fluently.
  • Must be able to operate a fork lift, man lift crane equipment.
  • Must have experience in pipeline locating and have the ability to pass ROW and damage prevention training.
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:
  • An associate degree in instrument technology or better.
  • Terminal, pipeline, and truck loading or other experience in the movement and storage of gas and/or liquids.
  • Knowledge and experience in installation, programming, and troubleshooting Allen Bradley programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Knowledge in transmitters controlling temperature, level, pressure, and flow.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in installation, programming, and troubleshooting SAAB tank radar gauges.
