Job Summary

This position oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of VAD training/education for patients and staff. The successful candidate will coordinate and manage the patient care of this high-risk patient population throughout the continuum to optimize the patient's clinical, functional, and psycho-social status.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the care of the high-risk ventricular assist device (VAD) patient population across the continuum in collaboration with CT Surgeons, Heart Failure Cardiologists, NP coordinators, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provides clinical consultation and education related to the management and care of the VAD devices for staff, physicians, and other disciplines who may have contact or care responsibilities for this population.
  • Develops a therapeutic relationship with the VAD patient and family and maximizes the patient's participation and control in their own recovery.
  • Teaches and provides reinforcement for VAD patients and their families on how to care for themselves and provide feedback on their progress.
  • Coordinates outpatient care of the VAD program in the clinic setting.
  • Shared on call requirement.
  • Plays an integral role in preparing and maintaining Joint Commission Accreditation.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing program that is approved by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing required.
  • 3-5 years Critical Care experience.
  • Current SC RN License.
  • ACLS and BLS.
