Job Description:

The Lifeguard Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing aquatic activities and recreation and leisure programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role requires minimal supervision and involves coordinating with fellow team members to meet the diverse needs and interests of participants.

The Lifeguard Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the pool area and effectively operating therapeutic recreation facilities. This position works under the direction of the Recreation Director and requires a strong ability to make safe and effective decisions.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Plan and implement aquatic and recreational activities that cater to individuals with varying skills, abilities, and interests.
  2. Make safe and effective decisions to ensure the well-being of participants.
  3. Coordinate and facilitate the use of the pool by external groups.
  4. Motivate and encourage staff participation in recreational activities.
  5. Communicate effectively through verbal or written means.
  6. Identify cost-effective alternatives and adapt to ongoing changes.
  7. Work effectively with minimal supervision.
  8. Maintain knowledge of ICF/MR standards and outcomes.
  9. Utilize computer skills to efficiently complete job tasks.

  2. Ability to train, motivate, and evaluate staff participation.
  3. Ability to facilitate workgroups and coordinate special projects.
  4. Ability to make safe and effective decisions.

  6. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  7. Ability to identify cost-effective alternatives.
  8. Ability to supervise staff or volunteers.
  9. Working knowledge of ICF/MR standards and outcomes.
  10. Physical requirements similar to direct contact staff.
  11. Ability to organize workload and meet deadlines.
  12. Computer skills or ability to learn.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent, plus two years of experience in job-related habilitation activities. Current Red Cross Lifesaving, Lifeguard, or WSI certification is required. A current Class B Texas driver's license and RSSLC driving certification are also necessary.

Initial Selection Criteria:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. At least six months of work experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or in therapeutic work is required.

Additional Information:

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks. Males between 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service. All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to random drug testing. Flexibility in work hours may be required, and the position may involve overtime and extended hours.
