The Agile Release Train Leader plays a crucial role in guiding an Agile Release Train (ART) towards successful outcomes while managing the complexities associated with software delivery in expansive environments. This position is responsible for addressing and escalating challenges faced by the train, overseeing risk management, ensuring value delivery, and promoting continuous improvement across the program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate actively in the RTE Community of Practice to foster alignment, share innovative techniques, and enhance technical and quality standards.
  • Facilitate ART Retrospectives to drive relentless improvement in backlog management, ART reviews, sprint reviews, and overall ART coordination.
  • Collaborate with the RTE community to enhance cross-train and solution group collaboration and coordination.
  • Oversee the preparation and execution of release planning for the ART.
  • Guide Scrum Masters within the teams on the ART.
  • Coordinate initiatives that span multiple release trains.
  • Coach the Agile release train in the effective implementation of Agile methodologies, practices, and mindsets.
  • Lead projects impacting the ART that may not necessitate direct team backlog contributions.
  • Assist in realizing the product vision.
  • Support team commitments and foster continuous growth.
  • Empower teams to take ownership of their products and processes.

Candidate Profile:

A Bachelor's Degree combined with 4 years of relevant experience or 8 years of applicable experience.

A minimum of 4 years' experience in roles such as Agile Release Train Engineer, Scrum Master, or Agile Project/Program Manager.

Proven ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders at the Director level.

Deep understanding of the distinction between being Agile and merely practicing Agile.

Familiarity with Lean principles and their application.

A servant leader with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of:

  • Listening to and supporting teams in identifying problems and making decisions.
  • Encouraging a culture of mutual respect, openness, and courage.
  • Influencing through persuasion rather than authority.
  • Understanding and empathizing with team members.
  • Thinking strategically beyond daily tasks.

Experience in Agile environments utilizing Scrum, XP, Kanban, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), or other scaling models.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Agile Certifications (A-CSM, PSM, or PMI-ACP).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) or other SAFe certifications.
  • Strong technical skills with experience in leading teams to deliver high-quality results.
  • Experience in applying Lean Thinking and Systems Thinking within large organizations.
  • Experience facilitating Lean Portfolio Management at program, portfolio, or executive levels.
