Job Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated research intern to assist in exploring the public policy dimensions of telecommunications, competition, cybersecurity, federal procurement, and the evolving landscape of work.

The selected candidate will be expected to navigate the relevant policy discussions and demonstrate a keen interest in the intersection of technology and policy, particularly in areas where technological solutions are not straightforward due to conflicting stakeholder interests.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough statistical, content, and legal analyses as essential research tools.
- Collaborate with the team to assess the needs of various stakeholders, including commercial, federal, and academic entities within the technology sector.
- Prepare and present comprehensive policy research reports to the team and relevant stakeholders.
- Draft Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and analyze pertinent legislation and significant court rulings related to the research focus.
- Engage in extensive writing tailored for a policy audience, effectively communicating complex technical topics.

Required Qualifications

- Master’s Degree or currently pursuing an advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
- Proven experience in crafting FOIA requests.
- Demonstrated proficiency in statistical, content, and legal analysis methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

- PhD in Public Policy or Communications & Technology.

Additional Information

This internship is targeted at current or prospective doctoral students, with an opportunity to extend into subsequent terms based on performance.

A criminal background check will be required for the successful candidate.
