Key Responsibilities:

  • The Joint Exercise Support Team (JEST) Planner plays a crucial role in assisting the Joint Event Support Team Lead (JEST Lead) by offering comprehensive planning, management, liaison, and coordination for designated exercises/events, the joint training system, and various special projects.
  • Acts as the secondary point of contact to the JS J7 Joint Exercise Division Desk Officer and/or Event Planner for contractor support related to assigned exercises/events. Develops exercise planning timelines; anticipates labor and travel needs; aids in the formulation of exercise/event budgets; and oversees the progress of the Joint Event Life Cycle (JELC).
  • Creates and maintains the Team calendar; organizes team member assignments and deployments; and provides assistance to functional area planners as necessary.
  • The JEST planner must gain an in-depth understanding of the supported organization, JELC processes, and contract deliverables to effectively design, plan, prepare, execute, and evaluate supported exercises/events.
  • Facilitates exercise meetings, conferences, and collaborative sessions.
  • This role may require travel to various locations within the supported organization's operational area.

The compensation for this position is competitive and aligns with the government General Scale (GS 11) and (GS 13) pay bands.

  • A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree is required. (Additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of educational qualifications)
  • Must have a combined minimum of 11 years of education and direct relevant experience.
  • Possess at least seven years of experience, including service and joint doctrine experience encompassing combat, combat support, and combat service support operations.
  • Experience with exercises at levels comparable to Joint Task Force, Army Corps, Numbered Air Forces, and Numbered Fleet is essential, particularly in the planning, design, execution, and assessment of exercises.
  • Ability to prepare and lead seminars/work groups; conduct training for both large and small groups; and perform post-exercise analysis is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills are necessary.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including presentation, word processing, spreadsheet, and collaboration tools is required.
  • Experience with Combatant Command, Joint Task Force, Corps, Division, Wing, or Afloat staff is preferred.
  • Must be capable of traveling unassisted to both CONUS and OCONUS locations in support of the task order.
  • A current Secret Clearance is required, with the ability to obtain a TS SCI clearance.
  • A current U.S. Passport is necessary.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain a Company Travel Card is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Combatant Command or Joint Staff J7 is preferred.
  • Extensive experience with operations centers, planning cells, and operational planning teams is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the scenario/MSEL development process is beneficial.
  • Possession of a Secret or TS/SCI Clearance is preferred.
