Job Summary

The Arkansas Government Job is seeking a highly skilled and experienced County Forest Ranger to join our team in the Forestry Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing forestry operations, managing forest fires, and enforcing forestry-related laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage a team of forestry personnel, including interviewing, training, and evaluating their performance.
  • Assess and respond to forest fire situations, planning and executing suppression efforts as needed.
  • Develop and implement prescribed burn plans, ensuring the safety of personnel and the environment.
  • Investigate forest fires, gathering data and writing reports to inform future prevention and suppression efforts.
  • Compile data for forest management plans, recommending forestry practices to enhance timber production and wildlife habitat.
  • Inform landowners of available federal assistance programs and provide guidance on forestry-related matters.
  • Act as an Incident Commander in emergency response situations, directing aerial attacks and coordinating with government agencies.
  • Oversee and assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Present fire prevention and forestry programs to schools, civic groups, and community leaders.
Requirements
  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
  • Three years of experience as a forest ranger, law enforcement officer, or in a forestry-related field, including one year of experience in a leadership capacity.
  • A valid Arkansas CDL within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Residency within the county of work station or within a thirty-minute response time.
  • Pass an annual physical standard and job retention training.
  • Ability to meet emergency response time standards during fire season.
  • Frequent countywide travel and exposure to wooded areas and weather.
