The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Space Science and Technology Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will provide technical and analytical support to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Principal Director for Space Technology.
Key Responsibilities- Provide independent, deeply technical advisory services to the OSD Principal Director for Space Technology, including evaluation of ongoing government resourcing and assistance with long-term strategy development.
- Support the development of space architectures, policy, and strategy, as well as developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction.
- Interface with senior government customers, contractors, and other stakeholders to address issues and provide technical and programmatic analyses.
- Lead and participate in technical study teams examining topics of national significance, including multi-orbit constellations, beyond GPS, novel PNT, commercial augmentation, autonomy, and the impact of novel technology on space architectures.
- Apply critical assessment, strategic advice, technical guidance, and expertise to studies based on previous and adjacent studies.
- Deliver superb decision support capabilities and products to OSD senior leadership.
- Provide leadership and support for planning and implementation of policy, acquisition, and requirements initiatives, developing architectural alternatives, assessing system budgets and schedules, and rationalizing investment portfolios.
- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM field.
- 10 or more years of progressively demonstrated engineering and policy experience, including multi-disciplinary system engineering in a program oversight environment.
- 5 years of experience in some aspect of space, such as satellite or instrument fabrication, integration, test, launch, operations, ground-based SOSI, etc.
- Analytic skills to support quantified study assessments.
- Strong technical background knowledge of space systems portfolios, engineering, development, and manufacturing.
- Broad understanding of space technologies, with at least one area of technology specialization.
- Experience with creating, supporting, and/or leading technical study teams examining topics of national significance.
- Proven ability to work effectively and professionally with senior government customers from organizations across the federal government.
- Proven ability to network with contractors, other government agencies, and the various Aerospace program offices to address issues and provide the customers with the best available technical and programmatic analyses.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to organize complex materials and concepts in a clear and logical manner at the executive leadership level.
- Exhibit a high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers.
- This position requires an active TS/SCI clearance and the ability to obtain SAP accesses, which is issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
- PhD in Aerospace Engineering/Physics or a related relevant STEM field.
- 15 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience.
- In-depth knowledge of roles played by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Reconnaissance Office, the Services, especially the Department of the Air Force and U.S. Space Force, and other government organizations in development and operations of the national security space enterprise.
- Previous work in a Pentagon office or previous experience supporting the above organizations.
- Previous experience with the Space Security and Defense Program, Space Warfighting Analysis Center, or similar organizations.
- Experience in space system acquisition.
- Experience in the operational use of space systems for DoD missions.
- Familiarity or first-hand experience with national security system procurement processes, including the Defense Acquisition System, Programming, Planning, Budgeting and Execution, and the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System.
- TS//HCS-P/SI-G/TK cleared along with SAP/SAR access, or previous experience working with these classifications.
- Understanding of how The Aerospace Corporation is organized and how to use that understanding to find and build support teams from Program Offices, ETG, etc.
- Experience in development/testing/field of space technology for US defense/IC systems.
- Experience in tracking threat space technology development at classified level.
- Experience in space control.
- Experience in Space Domain Awareness/SOSI (Blue+Red).
