Job Summary

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Histotechnologist to join our team in the Department of Pathology. As a Histotechnologist, you will play a critical role in the preparation and processing of histological specimens for microscopic examination by pathologists and researchers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by pathologists and researchers.
  • Perform grossing and dissection of small specimens using knowledge of animal and human anatomy and morphology.
  • Accession and bill projects.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine repairs or notify service personnel when more complex problems occur.
  • Perform quality assurance procedures, evaluating sections as they are being sectioned and assessing stain and tissue quality after staining.
  • Provide accurate information on work completed to ensure proper billing.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree from an accredited Allied Health, Biology, Chemistry, or related program with at least 12 semester hours credit in Biology and/or Chemistry.
  • One year of laboratory experience, including some histology experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Histotechnology program, associate's degree in Histopathology, or bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Histology, or a related field.
