Job Summary:

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Histotechnologist II to join our team in the SOM Pat Histology Lab. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of technical procedures on clinical and research specimens in the histology laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by a pathologist.
  • Accession and bill specimens.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and program tissue processors.
  • Perform special stain techniques, embed specimens, and prepare various staining solutions.
  • Conduct quality assurance procedures, including block and slide match, and report discrepancies per standard operating procedure.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records, providing accurate information on work conducted for client billing purposes.
  • Perform related general duties, such as ordering supplies, general lab housekeeping, and maintaining safety records.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited Histotechnology program.
  • Two years of laboratory experience that includes some histology experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Histology, or related field experience.

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm. The position is primarily in a laboratory environment, with exposure to toxins and infectious agents. The employee is required to operate computer keyboard, laboratory instruments, and small laboratory tools, and must be able to read and understand all Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) guidelines applicable to assigned work areas.
