About the Role

The US Navy Reserve is seeking skilled individuals to join our team as Machinist's Mates. As a key member of our crew, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining ship propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment, and outside machinery. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our vessels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Align piping systems for oil, water, air, and steam
  • Operate ship boilers and steam turbines used for ship propulsion
  • Operate turbo generators used to produce electrical power
  • Clean, adjust, test, and maintain boilers, engines, generators
  • Maintain auxiliary machinery, including steering engines, elevators, winches, pumps, and valves
  • Operate and maintain water desalination plants
  • Maintain refrigeration plants, air conditioning systems, and galley equipment
  • Repair valves, pumps, heat exchangers, compressors, steam turbines, and hydraulic and pneumatic devices
  • Create and analyze machinery operating reports and records

Education Opportunities

Navy Reserve Sailors continue to hold educational opportunities through Tuition Assistance, DANTES, and their post 9/11 or Montgomery GI Bill. Further education opportunities are also available through the US Naval War College and Senior Enlisted Academy, as well as certifications and licenses available through the Navy Credentialing Opportunities Online (COOL).

Qualifications and Requirements

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or equivalent
  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Be at least 17 years old
Work Environment

As a Navy Reserve Sailor, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Sailors in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes.
