The Senior Transportation Project Engineer will play a crucial role in the District Major Projects Design Section, providing expert project management and technical guidance for the design and coordination of significant transportation facilities. This includes conducting studies and developing plans for highways, right of way, and construction specifications.

This position is responsible for overseeing the progression of Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build projects. Candidates should possess a proven ability to apply advanced engineering knowledge regarding construction methods, standards, specifications, materials, policies, and procedures in managing both in-house and consultant-designed highway projects. The incumbent will maintain high-level project management and design skills to ensure exceptional customer service. Responsibilities include managing overall project scopes, schedules, and budgets while employing project management principles to achieve planned timelines and financial objectives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Comprehensive understanding of strategic, operational, and financial management principles.
  • Proficiency in utilizing computers and engineering software applications.
  • Possession of a valid Professional Engineer's (PE) license.
  • Capability to supervise construction activities for multiple projects of varying complexity as Engineer-in-Responsible-Charge.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with diverse groups.
  • Experience in roadway engineering design and familiarity with state and federal highway design and construction standards.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation regulations and practices.
  • Experience in preliminary engineering and construction activities.

Additional Considerations

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.
  • Experience managing large, complex projects within the transportation engineering or construction sectors.

This role is essential for emergency operations and may require work outside of regular hours, including weekends and holidays during emergencies, to ensure public safety.
