Position Overview

Role: Staff Chaplain – Hospice and Palliative Care

Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with rotating weekends for on-call duties.

Position Responsibilities

The Staff Chaplain is tasked with conducting advanced emotional-spiritual distress assessments, spiritual evaluations, and chaplaincy interventions for patients and their families in hospice care, partnering hospitals, and other contracted facilities. This role involves collaboration with fellow chaplains to deliver spiritual care services to patients, families, and staff who are experiencing significant distress and challenges in coping.

Essential Qualifications
  1. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in divinity, theology, psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  2. Completion of 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) within 6 months of employment from an ACPE-accredited training site.
  3. A commitment to pursue board certification as a chaplain, with annual progress evaluations.
  4. Certification in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) within 24 months of hire.
  5. Proficiency in electronic documentation.
  6. Availability for evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts as part of the on-call team.
  7. This position is classified as safety-sensitive and requires passing a pre-employment drug screening, including cannabis testing in compliance with state regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Ecclesiastical endorsement.
  2. Additional unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an ACPE-accredited site.
  3. In-depth knowledge of spiritual care practices in acute medical settings, with experience in oncology, cardiology, emergency care, pediatrics, and other hospital environments.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to listen empathetically.
  5. Capability to foster effective working relationships and contribute positively to interdisciplinary teams.
  6. Confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  7. Expertise in providing emotional and spiritual support aligned with patients' comprehensive care plans.
  8. Understanding of diverse faith traditions and the ability to serve varied populations with respect and sensitivity.
  9. Competence in maintaining accurate documentation of patient interactions and adhering to medical/legal reporting standards.
  10. Effective verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Spanish considered an asset.
  11. Knowledge of biomedical ethics and clinical ethical decision-making processes.
  12. Upon obtaining CISM certification, the ability to facilitate critical incident stress debriefings.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $38.54 per hour

Starting Rate: $33.99 per hour

Additional Premiums:

  • $2.50/hour for Weeknight shifts
  • $2.25/hour for Weekday shifts
  • $4.75/hour for Weekend Night shifts
  • $4.00/hour for On-Call Standby
