Job Overview

As a Culinary Services Supervisor, you will work under the guidance of the building administrator alongside the Food Service Director to manage and coordinate the preparation, serving, and cleanup of meals for all residents.

Equipment and Sanitation
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant state and city regulations regarding food storage, preparation, and the upkeep of kitchen facilities and dining areas.
  • Maintain a current food handling certification as required by local authorities.
  • Uphold sanitary and organized conditions in all food preparation, serving, and storage areas.
  • Collaborate with the Food Service Director and Dietitian to guarantee sanitation standards are met.
Meal Planning
  • Partner with the dietitian to design nutritious and appealing meal options and prepare menus in accordance with regulations and individual dietary needs.
  • Keep an updated collection of tested recipes that align with the planned menus.
  • Document six months of dated menus, noting any substitutions, along with copies of all food invoices for that timeframe.
  • Regularly meet with the administrator and residents to discuss food service and preferences.
Ordering
  • Oversee the procurement of all food and kitchen supplies through approved vendors.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of food, utensils, and supplies to ensure sufficient stock for meal preparation.
  • Monitor and adhere to the established food budget, collaborating with the Food Service Director and Dietitian to ensure compliance.
Food Preparation
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of meals, ensuring appealing presentation and portion control.
Supervision
  • Train and oversee the assistant food service manager, chefs, kitchen staff, and any temporary kitchen helpers.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the team to maintain a high standard of care and communication with residents.
  • Cooperate with other staff members to share insights about resident needs and progress.
  • Participate in training sessions and conferences to enhance job skills.
  • Implement emergency procedures as necessary and submit all required reports punctually.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of three years of culinary experience in a commercial kitchen serving 25 or more individuals.
  • Current food handler's certification.
  • At least 18 months of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Experience in food forecasting, inventory management, and vendor ordering is essential.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and capable of lifting 25 lbs while standing for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in English is required.
