Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our expanding team, focused on safeguarding and serving our community through the principles of modern policing. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine passion for law enforcement and adaptability in a dynamic environment shaped by ongoing police reform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with the community to deter crime and provide assistance to citizens.
- Foster strong relationships with community members, adhering to best practices in Community Oriented Policing.
- Ensure public safety at major events through a visible police presence.
- Identify and address potential criminal activities or hazardous situations to protect individuals and property.
- Assist in securing crime scenes and processing evidence.
- Respond to service calls, monitor violations, and take appropriate actions such as referrals or citations.
- Conduct investigations by collecting evidence and interviewing victims and witnesses.
- Document actions and observations through radio communication and report writing.
- Participate in campus internal processes, including hearings related to conduct and investigations.
- Provide testimony in court regarding investigations and citations.
- Maintain safe traffic conditions by monitoring and directing traffic, enforcing violations.
- Enforce laws and ordinances, investigate campus collisions, and report unsafe conditions.
- Operate various equipment including radios, medical equipment, and firearms.
- Perform related duties such as collaborating with other agencies, maintaining records, and assisting in emergency situations.
- Make informed decisions in emergency situations while remaining composed.
- Ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and policies in all duties performed.
- Execute specific responsibilities as directed by the Chief of Police or designated authority.
- Minimum of two years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in law enforcement or a governmental police force.
- An Associate's degree in police science, law enforcement, or criminal justice may substitute for one year of experience.
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A firearm license.
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
- Knowledge of police procedures, arrest laws, and criminal procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report preparation.
- Reliable transportation for travel to meetings and training.
- Physical stamina and endurance are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to establish positive working relationships, exercise discretion, and maintain composure in stressful situations.
- Experience with police dispatching software or report writing programs.
- Ability to communicate in a language other than English.
Note: This is a part-time, non-benefited position with an hourly rate of $30.05. A physical examination and psychological assessment will be required for the selected candidate. All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States. A pre-employment background check will be conducted for all positions.
