Job Summary:

The Facilities Management department at Mount Holyoke College is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Custodian. This role is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our academic, administrative, and other buildings on campus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform general cleaning tasks, including sweeping, vacuuming, and washing floors
  • Empty waste receptacles and maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Clean and disinfect restroom facilities, including toilets, sinks, countertops, mirrors, showers, and high-touch surfaces
  • Dust and polish furniture and fixtures
  • Communicate building and safety concerns, report needs for repair or services
  • Participate in snow removal assignments and other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to adhere to a detailed cleaning program and work independently
  • Flexibility to work some weekends and holidays, as well as on-call assignments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform manual tasks
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:
  • Employee will handle hazardous materials, including cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • May have contact with chemicals and fumes, wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and extreme weather
  • Noise level in some work environments can be loud

Physical Demands:
  • Balancing, carrying, pulling/pushing, grasping, repetitive movement, standing, bending, reaching, sitting, twisting, and lifting
  • Ability to physically perform manual tasks, climb stairs, lift, climb ladders, and bend
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted and stand for prolonged periods
