Position Overview
The State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS) is in search of a dedicated and skilled individual to fill the role of Legal Advisor III specializing in Ethics and Accountability within the Office of Legal Ethics & Accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal counsel on matters related to ethics and compliance to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with senior legal staff to develop and implement strategies that align with organizational objectives.
- Ensure adherence to applicable laws and policies, including the Political Reform Act of 1974.
- Manage compliance functions and respond to various legal requests, including Public Records Act inquiries.
- Investigate and address reports from the Ethics Hotline, offering guidance to avoid conflicts of interest.
Qualifications
- Active membership with the California State Bar is mandatory.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with all levels of staff.
- Strong organizational capabilities to prioritize and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Proven analytical skills to evaluate complex issues and provide clear recommendations.
- Professional demeanor with the ability to foster cooperative relationships.
- Self-motivated with a robust work ethic and integrity.
Compensation and Work Environment
Employees may be eligible for annual salary increases based on performance evaluations. The position offers a hybrid work model, combining both in-office and remote work options.
Additional Information
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. A background investigation will be conducted prior to employment.
