Metadata Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Metadata Specialist to join our team at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Library. As a key member of our Collection Management unit, you will be responsible for providing original and copy cataloging services for materials in all formats for the library's general and special collections.

About the Role:

  • Cataloging: Provide original and copy cataloging services for materials in all formats for the library's general and special collections according to current national/international cataloging standards, accepted best practices, and local policy.
  • Digitization and Archives Support: Assist with digitization efforts, create metadata for collections, and support efforts related to archives and special collections discoverability and access.
  • Physical Processing and Maintenance: Classify print materials, apply barcodes and labels, perform quality control and shelf checks, and assist with managing the library's physical collections for deaccessioning.
  • Reading Room Support: Maintain security and physical control over collections, assist with managing reading room operations, and provide researcher support.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and 5+ years of directly related work experience; or equivalent experience/training.
  • Thorough professional knowledge of specialized functional subject area activities, applicable systems, and databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex problems, recommend solutions, and maintain attention to detail and accuracy when working with databases.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills, with ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary and Benefits:

The estimated salary range for this position is $44,000 - $62,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of California offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement savings plans, paid time off, and more.
