We are seeking a highly skilled Metadata Specialist - Collections Inventory and Discoverability to join our team at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). This is a dynamic opportunity for a professional with expertise in cataloging and metadata management to contribute to the success of our health sciences library.

Responsibilities

  • Provide original and copy cataloging (resource description and cataloging) for materials in all formats for the library's general and special collections according to current national/international cataloging standards, accepted best practices, and local policy
  • Create, edit, and review catalog records for archival collections
  • Create, edit, and review catalog records to ensure library holdings are consistent and updated across the library's databases and OCLC WorldCat for new and existing acquisitions
  • Participate in special projects related to cataloging, database maintenance, and authority control
  • Support efforts related to digitization, archives and special collections discoverability and access, and other metadata-dependent efforts to describe, manage, expose, and share collections with users

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and 5+ years of directly related work experience; and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Thorough professional knowledge of a full range of specialized functional subject area activities
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable systems and databases
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex problems, and recommend solutions
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including diplomacy and tact in dealing with a variety of people and situations
  • Familiarity with library cataloging standards and controlled vocabularies (e.g., MARC, AACR2, RDA)
  • Demonstrated commitment to the value of equitable and inclusive metadata
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in working with databases
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills

About the Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is $62,000-$80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. The University of California offers an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as retirement savings and paid time off.
