Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Power Control Specialist to join our team at the City of Marietta, GA. As a key member of our utility operations team, you will be responsible for monitoring and responding to events related to our electrical distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Monitoring and Response: Utilize advanced systems such as SCADA, OMS, and FDIR schemes to monitor, analyze, and respond to events affecting our electrical distribution system.
  • Dispatch and Coordination: Dispatch personnel and equipment as needed to maintain and restore power in affected service areas.
  • Communication and Reporting: Respond to calls from various authorities and service personnel, and report on system status and events.
  • Administrative Functions: Maintain and update files in various software systems, submit reports, and perform other administrative tasks as required.
  • Security and Safety: Monitor video security systems, report suspicious behavior, and ensure the safety of all personnel.
  • Weather Monitoring: Monitor weather systems to determine if additional personnel need to be placed on standby status.
  • Outage Management: Operate and maintain our Outage Management System (OMS) to manage electrical outages in the power system.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: An Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field, or a high school diploma or GED with two years of related experience.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer communications operations, data entry, and filing and retrieving electronic information. Ability to use MS Office Suite programs and other related software.
  • Certifications and Training: Ability to attain MEAG Low-Side/High-Side, Switching certification and MEAG SCADA training certificate within one year of hire.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills, ability to speak English clearly, and ability to operate and communicate clearly using a two-way radio system.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Electrical Distribution Theory: Knowledge of electrical distribution theory, including the functions of electrical components such as circuit breakers, regulators, capacitors, and transformers.
  • Ability to Learn and Adapt: Ability to learn the basic principles of FDIR schemes and adapt to new technologies and systems.
