The City of Marietta, GA is seeking a highly skilled Power Control Technician to join our team. As a Power Control Technician, you will be responsible for monitoring and responding to events regarding the electrical distribution systems, as well as other BLW functions.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and respond to system events such as outages, system damage, accidents, security violations, etc.
- Utilize SCADA, OMS, FDIR, and other systems to monitor, analyze, respond to, and report all events and status the electrical distribution system.
- Dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment as required.
- Arrange and coordinate switching for electrical crews, inspectors, and operations personnel for the maintenance and or restoration of power in affected service areas.
- Respond to calls from various authorities and service personnel within the BLW, MEAG Power, Georgia Power, and Cobb EMC.
- Monitor the City/BLW water tanks and sewer lift stations levels and status. Respond to water level problems.
- Reports to water and sewer authorities of any abnormal conditions and directs all related calls to appropriate personnel.
- Dispatches appropriate water and sewer personnel to job site for the repair, maintenance, or inspection of affected area.
- Answers calls for and calls out appropriate personnel for all Public Works emergencies, i.e., traffic, streets, etc.
- An Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field and one year of related experience; or a high school diploma or GED and two years related control center, distribution, or engineering experience.
- Must be computer literate with knowledge of computer communications operations, data entry, filing, and retrieving electronic information.
- Ability to use MS Office Suite programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and other related software as needed.
- Ability to attain MEAG Low-Side/High-Side, Switching certification on the ITS system within one year of hire.
- Ability to attain MEAG SCADA training certificate on the ITS system within one year of hire.
- Knowledge of electrical distribution theory including the functions of electrical components such as circuit breakers, regulators, capacitors, transformers, and other related parts.
- Must have ability to learn the basic principles of FDIR schemes.
- Must have excellent verbal communications skills and speak English clearly. Ability to operate and communicate clearly using a two-way radio system.
- Ability to learn, use, and understand technical jargon and terms used in the electrical industry.
- Ability to work flexible hours and different shifts to include weekends, nights, and holidays as assigned, in the event of severe weather conditions as needed.
Successful candidates are required to submit to drug screen, physical exam, and background inquiry.
