As an Employment Support Specialist, you will be instrumental in aiding individuals with disabilities as they navigate their career paths. Your role will involve providing tailored, one-on-one support that aligns with each client's unique needs. Responsibilities may include assisting with resume creation, interview preparation, participating in orientations, guiding clients in mastering their job responsibilities, and offering on-site support to ensure successful task execution. This direct assistance is vital for fostering independence and success in the workplace.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Managing a caseload of clients receiving employment services.
- Engaging with clients to assess their interests, skills, abilities, aspirations, and support requirements.
- Assisting individuals in setting and achieving their goals while overcoming personal challenges.
- Providing job search guidance and interview coaching.
- Evaluating and crafting resumes that highlight skills and strengths.
- Facilitating communication between clients and employers or co-workers.
- Delivering individualized training in the workplace; instructing clients on how to perform job tasks.
- Helping to cultivate positive social, work, and life skills.
- Exemplifying positive work habits and practices.
- Offering prompts, cues, and support to foster skill development and independence.
- Monitoring and documenting progress, challenges, and work performance.
- Ensuring safety is prioritized in the work environment.
- Creating lasting, positive changes in individuals' lives through coaching, mentoring, and encouragement to achieve their employment aspirations.
- Minimum of six (6) months of prior experience as a Job Coach or Job Developer OR
- One (1) year of documented experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities; a bachelor's degree in human services is highly preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- This position requires driving. It involves travel between various sites and transporting individuals in a personal vehicle to different employment locations. All mileage incurred during shifts is reimbursed. A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a satisfactory driving record are essential.
- Availability for Evening and Weekend Shifts is Required.
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office, email, and basic data entry.
- Candidates must meet all Oregon State Department of Human Services requirements.
- A genuine passion for supporting others and a strong advocacy mindset.
- A flexible, self-motivated individual capable of working independently.
- Effective communication skills, including listening, speaking, and writing.
- Demonstrates patience, compassion, and excellent interpersonal skills with a professional demeanor.
- Ability to adapt to various work environments and remain flexible to changing circumstances.
