Job Summary

As a Medical Assistant at Prisma Health, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and administrative support to our healthcare team. Your primary responsibilities will include performing patient care and related administrative duties under the direct supervision of our physicians. You will also be responsible for performing a variety of office/clerical duties as assigned by the office manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment, obtaining and recording their chief complaints, current medications, vital signs, pain screening, and allergies.
  • Pend orders for physician signature and prepare exam and treatment rooms.
  • Assist physicians with examinations, tests, procedures, and office-based surgery, applying splints, casts, dressings, and removing sutures with competency.
  • Prepare and administer medications and immunizations as ordered by the physician, including p.o., vaginal, and rectal suppositories, intradermal injection, and intramuscular injection.
  • Receive and return clinically-related telephone calls, communicating with physicians or registered nurses regarding medical concerns of patients.
  • Teach patients and provide printed information about diagnosis, self-care, health promotion, disease prevention, and community healthcare resources, documenting patient education in the medical record.
  • Document data and care in the patient medical record, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Complete medical insurance and other related forms for physician review, communicating as needed with patients, referral sources, and payors between visits.
Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program is preferred.
  • No experience required.
  • Required certifications/registrations/licenses include job-related certification from one of the following: CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), CCMA (NHA), NCMA (NCCT), RMA (ARMA), NRCMA (NAHP), or RMA (AAMP).
Work Environment

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive. The work environment is a fast-paced healthcare setting with a focus on delivering exceptional patient care and administrative support.
