Position Overview

The CMMI-Examination Design Program team is seeking to enhance our capabilities by adding a skilled professional responsible for the development of precision motion and data acquisition systems. These systems are utilized for examining spent nuclear fuel, materials specimens, and similar applications, often in uniquely challenging underwater and irradiated environments.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting research and development of innovative technologies.
  • Performing proof of principle testing.
  • Engaging in mechanical design and analysis.
  • Integrating with motion control components.
  • Executing testing procedures and authoring end-user documentation.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, test sponsors, and system end-users, will be essential to your role.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering or a related scientific field, coupled with 2 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in a similar field with 1 year of relevant experience; or current or previous EOOW qualification in the Nuclear Operations Program; or SRE qualification.

Pay Range

$76,000.00 - $117,000.00 annually.

Salary information provided serves as a general guideline. Annual salary is contingent upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory operates under the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. All candidates must be U.S. citizens and will undergo a Federal background investigation, meeting eligibility requirements for access to classified information. FMP is a government contractor and maintains a drug-free workplace. All candidates must be able to pass a drug test in compliance with FMP company policy and 10 CFR 707.
