Property Compliance Supervisor (Salary: $65,000 Annually; DOQ)
This role oversees the City’s property upkeep and zoning inspection initiatives to ensure adherence to municipal codes, regulations, and statutes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversees property inspections to guarantee compliance with municipal code regulations related to property upkeep and zoning; manages part-time Code Enforcement Inspectors.
  • Conducts regular property maintenance assessments within designated zones.
  • Performs evaluations for zoning compliance and conditions of approval for the City.
  • Issues formal warnings and notices of violations as necessary on behalf of the Zoning Administrator. Prepares written communications for property maintenance and zoning issues, as assigned.
  • Administers enforcement contracts and ensures vendors fulfill their obligations as approved by the City, and manages contract renewals to prevent service interruptions, as assigned.
  • Investigates and gathers information on reports of potential violations concerning property maintenance and zoning regulations.
  • Compiles reports on property maintenance and zoning issues, as assigned.
  • Assists with the evaluation and enforcement of zoning permits, as assigned.
  • Reports suspected violations of the Uniform Statewide Building Code to the Building Official for assessment.
  • Maintains records of inspections and enforces corrective measures, including nuisance abatement and/or legal action.
  • Addresses inquiries from the public and professionals.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Two years of college or Associate's Degree and three to five years of directly related experience; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree and two to three years of directly related experience; or
  • A Master's Degree with at least one year of directly related experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Certified Zoning Official (CZO) or Certified Zoning Administrator (CZA) designations by the Virginia Association of Zoning Officials are desirable.
  • Property Maintenance Inspector Certification by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

The role requires physical exertion such as traversing rough or challenging terrain; frequent standing, stooping, climbing, or walking; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing between 25 and 50 pounds. The position may require specific physical characteristics and abilities such as enhanced strength, mobility, and dexterity.
The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially hazardous situations or unusual environmental stress that necessitate a range of safety and other precautions.
