The Junior Category Management Specialist plays a crucial role in analyzing product and service needs, exploring supplier options, and optimizing profit margins to drive sales growth. This position supports the Category Manager by offering insights and making informed decisions to improve merchandising, promotional, and marketing strategies for assigned products. The individual will manage over 30 vendor partnerships and may require occasional travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough research on market trends and competitor activities to stay informed about industry best practices and innovative products.
  • Ensure timely delivery of products/services at agreed prices while maintaining the company's quality standards.
  • Oversee the implementation and training related to product/service offerings in stores, including planograms and item information.
  • Work collaboratively with various departments such as Marketing, Accounting, and IT to execute effective promotions and enhance operational processes.
  • Analyze internal sales and margin data to pinpoint areas for improvement and the introduction of new offerings.
  • Act as a liaison between vendors and field operations.
  • Perform research to identify product/service requirements, including initial specifications, potential suppliers, and target sales margins; recommend suitable suppliers and vendors.
  • Gather and analyze feedback from field personnel regarding current and future products and plans.
  • Partner with supervisors to negotiate favorable terms for products/services, balancing cost with quality and delivery timelines, including contracts and promotions.
  • Address issues raised by field personnel promptly, ensuring clear communication and follow-up.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred 1+ years of experience in contract negotiation and program management.
  • 1-2 years of experience in retail or category management is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint.
