Statutory Accountant Specialist

This role is key to ensuring the company's financial reporting is accurate, compliant, and delivered on time.
Position Overview: The Statutory Accountant will manage the preparation of statutory financial reports and ensure strict compliance with statutory accounting principles (SAP). You'll play a critical role in preparing regulatory filings, working with external auditors, and ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements-particularly in industries where compliance is essential, like insurance and financial services. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a detail-heavy, deadline-driven environment and is passionate about navigating the complexities of regulatory reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit timely and accurate statutory financial statements in compliance with SAP and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Handle quarterly and annual filings, ensuring full compliance with state and federal regulatory bodies.
- Reconcile statutory financial reports to GAAP-based financial statements, investigating and explaining variances.
- Stay current with evolving statutory accounting standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with auditors during statutory audits, ensuring accurate and timely provision of supporting documentation.
- Monitor regulatory developments and changes to ensure ongoing compliance with local, state, and federal rules.
- Assist in preparing cash flow statements, income statements, and balance sheets in accordance with statutory guidelines.
- Work closely with internal accounting teams to enhance and streamline financial reporting processes.
- Provide detailed financial analysis, offering insights to support decision-making across the business.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation is a strong advantage.
- 3-5 years of experience in statutory accounting and reporting, particularly within industries like insurance, finance, or highly regulated environments.
- Strong knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP) and GAAP.
- Proficiency with financial reporting tools and systems, such as Oracle, SAP, or similar.
- Advanced Excel skills with experience handling large datasets and creating reports.
- Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines.
- Strong communication skills-able to explain complex concepts clearly to internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
