Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in the month-end close process, providing accurate financial reporting and analysis. This position will be responsible for managing global payroll operations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Senior Accountant will also support the accounting close process, developing and implementing streamlined processes and ensuring timely documentation. This individual will work under general supervision on various accounting projects, assisting with quarterly and annual financial auditor requests and reporting. The Senior Accountant will be knowledgeable regarding US GAAP and preparation of documents in a SOX compliant environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Accrued Expenses, Purchase Orders, and Accounting Operations:

  • Manage and reconcile accrued expenses, ensuring accurate recording and timely payment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate accruals and maintain compliance with accounting standards
  • Maintain accrual and prepaid accounting ledgers, prepare journal entries, and review monthly activity in the general ledger
  • Interact with department budget holders and vendors to track, monitor, and review month-end accruals; record and prepare required journal entries and supporting documentation
  • Oversee the PO process, including creation, approval, and tracking
  • Ensure proper coding, matching, and timely recording of PO-related transactions
  • Review vendors' bill postings for correct general ledger and department coding and accuracy
  • Manage all PO's for the Finance and Accounting team as well as supporting various other departments PO's
  • Assist in external reporting and audit preparations
  • Handle recurring and manual journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis
  • Review monthly activity in the general ledger
  • Review and reconcile various balance sheet accounts, investigate variances, and prepare journal entries and supporting documentation
  • Prepare detailed analytics to support account balances on the balance sheet and income statement
  • Participate in developing policies and processes that will streamline accounting and financial reporting and ensure that processes and procedures are appropriately documented and executed in a SOX environment
  • Actively participate in the implementation of accounting process automation, including the implementation of NetSuite modules and other software tools
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to track project costs, analyze variances, and ensure accurate project accounting
  • Implement and maintain internal controls in accordance with SOX requirements
  • Participate in audits and provide necessary documentation
  • Maintain internal controls for key processes to ensure compliance with SOX 404 regulations and procedures

Payroll:

  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with payroll-related taxes and withholdings
  • Manage timely reporting of equity transactions for each payroll cycle
  • Develop and implement payroll policies and procedures
  • Analyze payroll data and provide accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports for circulation to management
  • Ensure timely filing of all payroll-related taxes and research open issues and/or variances
  • Capture payroll-related accruals
  • Oversee payroll audits and perform necessary corrections
  • Participate in month-end close processes by preparing payroll and benefit reconciliations and related journal entries to ensure all information is captured accurately
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payrolls, in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and address discrepancies promptly
  • Comply with all applicable policies regarding health, safety, and the environment

Requirements:

  • BS in Accounting or equivalent field/degree
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including overseeing payroll processing
  • Experience in a public and/or biotech company is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient using various relevant software applications, including MS Office with advanced skills in Excel and accounting software (i.e., NetSuite)
  • Solid track record working with general ledger accounts, reconciliations, variance reporting, and analysis
  • Ability to work independently and proactively under general guidance
  • Proactively identifies and communicates issues and appropriate solutions
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal); ability to interact with all levels of employees and external vendors successfully and constructively
  • Able to appropriately manage confidential or sensitive information and utilize strong business judgment
