Position Overview

Bonneville County is seeking applications for the role of GIS Technician, II. This position offers a competitive starting salary of $18.22 per hour and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week.


About the Role

The GIS Technician, II will engage in a variety of skilled technical duties associated with the implementation, operation, and maintenance of the county's Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This role is vital in supporting the county's efforts to enhance community services through effective data management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship and training to junior technicians while leading assigned projects.
  • Research and analyze property descriptions, deeds, and maps for integration into the GIS database.
  • Ensure the accuracy of data and resolve discrepancies in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Input data into the GIS system utilizing various techniques, including coordinate geometry and digitization of paper maps.
  • Integrate graphics and data into the GIS, ensuring proper categorization and visual representation.
  • Respond to inquiries and assist department personnel in accessing GIS information.
  • Operate peripheral devices to produce necessary outputs for various departments.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess an Associate degree in Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, Geography, or a related field, along with two years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Proficient in GIS software and mapping principles.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex documents and data.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based, requiring various physical activities such as lifting, sitting, and operating computer equipment. Candidates should be prepared for a fast-paced work environment that demands attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
