Clinical Fertility Assistant

The Clinical Fertility Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the efficiency of patient flow in the Fertility Center. This position is responsible for ensuring that patients and family members are attended to in a caring and attentive manner.
Key Responsibilities- Greet patients in a professional manner and escort them into patient exam rooms, maintaining patient privacy, comfort, and confidentiality.
- Take and document patient vital signs, collect specimens, and perform point-of-care testing as ordered.
- Assist with procedures such as pelvic exams, vaginal ultrasounds, office hysteroscopies, and endometrial biopsies, under the supervision of a physician.
- Prepare procedural medications under the supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner.
- Keep detailed records of clinical information provided by physicians during exams and procedures.
- Complete patient intakes and enroll patients in EngagedMD.
- Maintain detailed equipment assessments pre- and post-procedures.
- Clean and disinfect procedural equipment, including the use of the Trophon machine, following MGH infection control guidelines.
- Assist RNs and MDs with intrauterine inseminations, ensuring precise identification of sperm specimens.
- Perform phlebotomy, including daily blood draws on patients in treatment cycles, as well as new and follow-up patients.
- Track patient testing and consults for completion, identifying and reporting abnormal testing results to the team RN in a timely manner.
- Meet with new patients in collaboration with physicians, providing patient education on initial work-ups, testing, and male patient testing.
- Complete lab requisitions, including outside genetic testing paperwork, under the supervision of RNs or MDs.
- Prepare for physician sessions, reviewing completed testing and consults ordered.
- Evaluate daily schedules to identify changes in patient appointments, recognizing the need to reschedule patients.
- Anticipate plans of care for follow-up physician visits, preparing additional lab requisition slips and pulling educational treatment packets.
- Organize and maintain patient educational packets.
- Scan procedural consents, outside medical records, and other documents into the EMR.
- Assist RNs with prior authorization requests for medications.
- Assist physicians and fellows during oocyte retrievals and embryo transfers, using sterile technique in the OR procedural area.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Certification Program preferred.
- Undergraduate degree preferred.
- 1 year of prior clinical experience in an ambulatory setting preferred.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Strong clinical and judgment skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Particular attention to detail.
- Highly reliable to work in conjunction with colleagues of all disciplines.
