Accounting Specialist 2

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Specialist 2 to join our team at the Louisiana Department of State Civil Service. As an Accounting Specialist 2, you will be responsible for providing complex accounting services to the immediate department and campus-wide, ensuring that all cash/credit transactions are properly posted and transacted in accordance with state and federal requirements and auditing standards.
Key Responsibilities- Provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and staff, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and timely manner.
- Process payments to student accounts, including payments from students in person, over the phone, and through the mail.
- Verify amounts received and post all deposits to the general ledger, issuing receipts as necessary.
- Perform end-of-day reconciliations of cash drawers, credit card payments, and other transactions, resolving any discrepancies.
- Maintain petty cash funds, verifying authorized signatures and dispersing funds to departments campus-wide.
- Request reimbursement of funds from Accounts Payable and disburse checks, including payroll checks, returned student refund checks, and reimbursement payments for faculty and staff.
- Prepare daily reports detailing monies deposited the previous day, identifying any discrepancies and taking corrective action.
- Confer with the general public, students, and employees to obtain information and answer questions on various topics, including student accounts, refund information, and university deadlines.
- Two years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, or numerical computation.
- College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
- An Associate Degree in Accounting, Accounting Technology, or Business from an accredited college or university will substitute for the required experience.
- Training in a vocational-technical school or military school in Accounting, Accounting Technology, or Business will substitute for up to one year of required experience on the basis of one month of training for one month of experience.
- Prior cash handling/management experience, including taking payments, balancing at end of day, and preparing deposit reports.
