Job Overview

The State of Tennessee is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of DCS Intake Associate. This position is integral to the Child Abuse Hotline series and is designed for those who are entering the field of child welfare. The successful candidate will be trained to handle crisis situations effectively and develop essential skills for conducting thorough intake assessments of reported child abuse and neglect cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and process referrals regarding suspected child abuse and neglect from various sources, including the general public and community partners.
  • Conduct interviews to gather information about child safety and risk factors, utilizing effective questioning techniques.
  • Document all findings accurately in the DCS electronic intake database, ensuring clarity and completeness of reports.
  • Manage multiple referral types, including phone calls and online submissions, while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
  • Research historical data within the DCS system to identify any previous involvement with the child and family.
  • Interpret and apply DCS policies and procedures to assess safety and risk during the intake process.
  • Complete mandatory training programs and stay informed about updates in policies and state regulations.
  • Participate in scheduled overtime shifts to ensure continuous coverage of the Child Abuse Hotline.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on empathy and cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficiency in time management and problem-solving skills.
